Rest in Peace Charlotte, An Inspiration to Millions.

We are saddened to share the news that Charlotte Figi died on Wednesday, April 7 at the age of 13.

Charlotte was an inspiration to people all over the world. Her story captivated millions and shattered stigmas surrounding cannabis and its medical uses. Additionally, legislation in the US changed as a direct result of Charlotte’s battle with Dravet syndrome.

A Facebook message posted on the page of Charlotte’s mother read:

Our family is grateful for the outpouring of love while we mourn the loss of our Charlotte. Charlotte had a catastrophic form of early childhood epilepsy called Dravet syndrome. We are moved by the continual impact that Charlotte’s life has made shedding light on the potential of cannabis for quality of life.

From a very early age, Charlotte suffered from this extreme form of epilepsy. At one point, she was having 300 seizures a week and could barely function. She had limited motor skills and could not speak.

After an exhaustive search, Charlotte’s parents met Dr. Allan Shackelford, an expert in medical cannabis. Together, the family administered special oil that was high in cannabidiol, or what is commonly known as CBD.

The results were no short of a miracle. Charlotte was not only able to speak but also run, dance, and play. Numerous broadcasts and publications around the world featured her story, which inspired thousands to try CBD for medicinal purposes.

Charlotte’s mother was also inspired to create a non-profit called the Realm of Caring dedicated to other families looking to alternative medicines. The Realm of Caring’s website writes,

“Charlotte’s story directly impacted thousands of families across the globe and has changed the face of cannabis in many ways (…) Your work is done Charlotte, the world is changed, and you can now rest knowing that you leave the world a better place. With broken hearts, we cradle the Figi’s/Iafeliece’s in our thoughts and prayers. Thank you, Charlotte, for dedicating your life to the service of a greater good. We promise to carry on the mission.”

Our condolences to Charlotte’s family, loved ones, and all who were inspired by her remarkable story.
